somewhere near home

for our final photography project for year 1, we were asked to produce a 5 picture narrative of a location which is significant to us. the final images aim to create a 'sense of place' of the chosen location. i decided on a very personal idea, and i am proud to say i achieved a first for the work i produced overall.

the following images were shot on 35mm ilford HP5 film using a Pentax K1000 analogue camera (50mm lens), and printed by hand in the darkroom.

somewhere near home • ciara callinan • overgrowth. despair. loneliness • this assignment unconsciously asked me to revisit something from the past. a place of significance. somewhere important • this personal project evolved when i decided to create photographs in this particular location. this very location. one where we went every day. but then you disappeared • in 2004 i lost my father. this location, half a mile from my home, is where he once kept his dogs. this place, which i had not revisited in many years, is suddenly a place i no longer recognise. an abandoned terrain. a place in which the natural environment has claimed for itself.
